Thanksgiving pies!

Wednesday, November 20, 2013

With Thanksgiving just around the corner, all I can think about is Pie! Normally when you think of Thanksgiving you go to the classics... apple, pumpkin, maybe even sweet potato. But why limit yourself? With the wonderful tool of Pinterest these days you can find a variety of options to spruce up your holiday desserts this year!

Surprise your family and friends with some new pie options and check out these recipes!

Smores Chocolate Pie via Life Love and Sugar

Who wouldn't want to bring the goods from the outdoors to the dinner table? Using marshmallows already for some yams or a jello salad this Thanksgiving? Extend it further and add it to your Pie!

Cream Puff Pie via Cooking Classy

Take an amazing cream puff, or eclair and turn it into a pie, Brilliant! Enjoy this super simple recipe that calls for a "cheaters pastry cream" because it is made from a boxed pudding mix. I love when you can find a recipe that makes life easier.

Lemon Cake Pie via Mother Thyme

Oh lemon. I love all things lemon, and the idea of taking a lemon bar and turning it into a pie is pretty exciting to my taste buds. I can't imagine anything better than a nice lemony tart dessert after such a savory Thanksgiving dinner!

Nanaimo Cheesecake via I Wash... You Dry.

Okay, maybe it is the Canadian girl in me that is getting me all giddy about this one but imagine a Nanaimo Bar mixed with the wonderfulness of cheesecake! While not necessarily a pie, this special dessert will steal the show. An incredibly rich cake to end the night of a feast!

No-Bake Blueberry Cheesecake via Once Upon My Life

Don't have a lot of time? Whip up this simple No-Bake Cheesecake! Don't like blueberries? Feel free to add whatever fruit pie filling on top to suit your needs this Thanksgiving. Just another great and easy dessert you can add to everyone's favorite part of the meal on Thanksgiving.

Homemade Oreo Cookies

Monday, November 18, 2013

Oreos are one of my favorite cookies (and ice cream flavors in case you were wondering) and from the stats they are also considered to be the world's most favorite cookie! But how could anyone blame us? The chocolate cookie and cream is a classic. But as much as I love a classic Oreo, I would have to say the homemade Oreo cookies my mom made growing up are even better.

By now I feel people are well aware of these box mix Oreo cookies, but when I whipped some up last Sunday for some friends I couldn't help but share the recipe here for you all. Just in case by some small crazy chance you hadn't heard of these yet, you can thank me later!

I got this adorable cake stand from Red Envelope! Red Envelope has everything you could imagine, and is a great go to place for gifts! I love how you can personalize anything, like I did with this cake stand. The perfect touch to display your sweets!

I shared this recipe over two years ago on my personal blog and it was funny to see how bad my camera was back then :) ENJOY!

HOMEMADE OREOS

PRINT THIS RECIPE

Yields: around 3 dozen
For the cookies:
3 pkgs Duncan Hines Devil’s Food Cake mix
6 eggs
1 cup vegetable oil

Directions:
Mix ingredients in a Bosch or Kitchenaid. You can start mixing it with a blender, but eventually you will have to work the mix together with your hands because the mix gets too heavy for a blender.  Roll into walnut size balls.  Do not press.  Bake at 375 for 10 – 12 mins.
When you take them out of the oven tap pan on the counter, this will flatten the cookies. I hold the pan up a few inches from the counter and drop it. You can do this a few times depending on how flat your want your cookie.

Put two cookies together with the following:

ICING
¼ cup margarine or butter
1 – 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese
4 cups icing sugar
tsp vanilla
Mix together.  Spread generously.
You can double this icing recipe if you want double stuffed style ;)

TIPS
The icing will be runny at first, if you store in the fridge for a few hours or over night it will firm up and be better for staying in the cookie. Also, if you ice them and let them sit for awhile covered, it will soften the cookie more, making very fluffy and chewable cookies!

Let's get this party started!

For years I have wanted to create a space online for my love of food & celebrating, and today is that day! I am thrilled to finally be starting this new project in my life. While managing a full time job marketing, as well as running my personal blog, it felt like at times this wouldn't happen. So it is with much excitement that I introduce you to Alycia Grayce!

Please bear with me over the next month, while I navigate my way through this and work out a few kinks here and there ;)

I figured what better way to kick start things then with a CELEBRATION?! What kind of celebration can you have online? Well the best thing I could think of was a giveaway! And what better thing to giveaway then a Party?

I decided to cover all of your bases. First off, throwing the party! Minted is one of my favorite places to go to get adorable, and modern party decor. They have different packages that have your party covered from start to finish. You could even get some beautiful invites, or holiday cards!

While I can't make a cake for you, the next best thing I can do is to have something pretty for you to put it in! I mean, it isn't a party if their isn't food right?

Winner takes all :)

HOW TO ENTER! Since I don't have an audience on this blog yet, I will be hosting the giveaway on my personal blog, so hop on over there to enter!
